 GoBoat Birmingham - New to the City

GoBoat Birmingham arrived in our city just two weeks ago so I can't wait to tell you all about them. GoBoat is a fun, self drive boating experience where you're the captain of your boat and you choose the route. From their location at Brindley Place, GoBoat gives you access to a stunning section of Birmingham's vibrant canal network.

On a sunny day like yesterday, it's absolutely gorgeous. 

Your boat fits up to 8 people including children (dogs are also welcome). No boating experience is necessary, as you’ll be taught everything you need to know. It’s so easy.

Daddy was the Captain of our Boat for the afternoon which he loved.

The friendly GoBoat crew are ready to welcome at their kiosk just under the bridge from the ICC. They'll give you all your boating instructions and provide life jackets and buoyancy aids for babies and children. You’ll also be given a route map to help you navigate your way along the canal loops. There's two routes to choose from, both are fab but we decided on the quieter route away from the city centre and out towards Birmingham University - The Vale. 

You can choose to set sail on a 1, 2 or 3 hour adventure depending on what you would prefer. We chose the 2 hour trip which was just right for us. Our boat trip was shared with family but you can grab your friends too if you like. We really made the most of our time out on the water, enjoying a picnic on our travels. The kids were so excited. It's such a lovely way to make lifelong memories, whilst experiencing Birmingham from a whole new perspective.

It's recommend to make your booking online as slots can fill up quite quickly, especially now the warmer weather is creeping in. The price begins at £95 for one boat for the first hour but with 8 people that works out less than £12 per person which is a great price really.

2 hours is £135 and 3 hours is £175.

I loved the added treat of the blankets incase it got a bit chilly out on the water. Luckily we didn't need them on our trip other than to sit on which was very comfy. It was such a lovely touch. The boats have a lovely big table in the middle, plenty big enough for all your picnic needs and seats all the way around the boat so there's room for everyone to sit comfortably.

We had a wonderful afternoon taking in all the sights in the sunshine. It was so nice to see Birmingham from a different viewpoint. I'd forgotten just how beautiful our city is.

GoBoats are powered by low emission rechargeable electric motors - an almost silent tiller controlled Torqeedo Cruise 2.0 electric outboard. Every night their crew plug the electric engines in to charge up, ready for the next day. Boats travel at an ideal cruising speed of 3.5 knots, about 4mph. The wooden tabletop is sustainably sourced forestry kebony. The foam kernel is made of 80% recycled PET, the equivalent of about 600 plastic bottles.
