E.ON’s Savvy Shopping Blogger Challenge.

 E.ON’s Savvy Shopping Blogger Challenge.

I love shopping, so when E.ON asked me to take part in their E.ON’s Savvy Shopping Blogger Challenge I just had to say YES! My mission was to take a note of my weekly spends and then try to save money on what I had bought. My shopping spends change quite a lot week by week so it was a little difficult but seeing as I've been busy getting ready for my holiday I used that as my main focus. Getting ready for a holiday can be so exciting but also very costly, so I was on a mission to save as much money as I could.

So, last weeks shopping consisted of a trip to the High Street to pick up some holiday essentials. I bought 4 bottles of Sun cream in Boots which cost me £28, that was a  total cost of £7 a bottle which is pretty pricey but seeing as the shop was close to home so I just got on with it. I also purchased my Shampoo and Conditioner bottle in Superdrug which again cost me almost £5 a bottle. Shopping on the High Street can be expensive when you just pick up what you need without properly looking around for the best price you can get.

Still on my local High Street I popped into New Look and bought myself a new hat and a pretty dress which just jumped into my basket, it was that pretty. Those two items cost me a total of £42 - oops. So in total I'd spend £80 on just sun cream, hair stuff and one outfit.

E.ON have recently launched their Cap and Track 1 Year tariff which is a new dual fuel, fixed monthly Direct Debit tariff, which tracks the average price of all energy tariffs on the market and is priced below the market average. The tariff offers customers the simple reassurance that their energy prices will be tracked against the market average and that their bills won’t rise above those the cap they signed up to for the duration of their contract, but could fall further.  The aim of Cap and Track is to remove the hassle for people who don’t want to spend time shopping around but who still want the reassurance that their prices are fair and stable – with the important possibility that they could fall further too.

I was given some Top Tips from financial expert, Jasmine Birtles:

1. Haggle on and off the high street.
2. Be clever with coupons.
3. Buy in bulk.
4. Time your purchases.
5. Switch and save.

Apparently, people spend more than an hour a week shopping around for better deals, saving on average £660 a year. The main motivations for shopping around are:

1. Saving money (60%)
2. Feeling in control of finances (58%)
3. Feeling reassured about getting a good deal (45%)

So this week I took all those tips into consideration before I went off shopping again this week and have to say I had much more fun. Yes my shopping took me a little longer than last week but I got so much more for my money and saved a lot at the same time. I still had lots of holiday essentials to buy but this time I avoided the High Street and went online instead. My favourite place to shop is on Amazon so of course that is where I started out.

I needed more sun cream, so this time I used my Amazon Prime account to get some delivered. It was £7 a bottle and came with free delivery meaning I could buy as many bottles as I wanted without having to worry about carrying it all home because that stuff is really heavy, which is why I normally only buy a bottle or two at a time. I also got some Mosquito products to help protect me, they tend to like me a lot in foreign countries.

I also popped back into New look but this time I went straight to the Sale Rails. Going on Winter Sun holidays is great as the shops are all selling off their Summer stock getting ready for Autumn/Winter. I managed to find some really lovely items and saved a load of cash too. On the day I went they were offering an extra 20% off all sale items which was awesome. I got around nine items in total and all for less than £50 which saved me over £100 pounds. Shopping in the Sale Rails does take longer but it's well worth it.

It's been so much fun taking part in the  E.ON’s Savvy Shopping Blogger Challenge and I've learnt so much. The main thing I've learnt is not to impulse buy, it always pays off to take your time and look around for the best deal. Saving money does take time but it's worth it.

In total I think I saved well over £100, so I am very happy with myself - yay.

Games Night with Character: Five Nights at Freddies and Boom Blast Stix #Review

Games Night with Character:
Five Nights at Freddies and Boom Blast Stix

This weekend we've been busy hosting our very own Family Games Night here in the Mummy Of 3 Diaries household. With two brand new games from Character and two very eager children, we had everything we needed and were all set for a fun filled day of games.

First up we have the brand new Five Nights at Freddies which brings one of the world’s most popular scary video games to life in the form of a 3D game. It's nice and easy to set up and all clicks into place. It does require three AA batteries which are not supplied so you will need to buy these separate. Demon teddy Freddy holds all the tokens, all is calm when the lights are down low but players must all take their suspense filled turns to spin the dial and take the tokens from right under Freddies Nose. There's some really spooky music which plays whilst the game is in action and the suspense can get quite scary as no one knows just when he's wake up. The Loser of the game is the player who gets greedy and takes too many tokens and wakes Freddy from his deep sleep, releasing his fury! Watch out because Freddy gets very angry when he's woken up, he roars and leaps forward to grab you.

Five Nights at Freddies is a really fun, suspense filled game for the whole family.

Next up we have Boom Blast Stix which is the brand new game that will keep everybody playing on the edge of their seats. The game is made up of 40 sensitive interlocking springs that when put together can explode at any time. The aim of the game really simple, it's to stack as many pieces as you can before they go off. It's a very high risk, unpredictable and addictive game which is sure to be full of laughter as players react to the cascading pieces.

We loved this game so much. It's so exciting as you never know when the pile is going to explode and who knew how high those little pieces could fly. They sure shocked me, and the kids, as they flew up, up and away on our last game. We all screamed out loud.

We had a fantastic games night and loved both of the games but if we had to pick just one, I think we'd all go for the Boom Blast Stix as it's easy to play yet really exciting and fun.

Disclosure: We received our Character Games in return for an honest review.

Weekend Washing - BritMums #EcoverLaundry Challenge

Weekend Washing -
BritMums #EcoverLaundry Challenge

I'm a Weekend Washer - I hold my hands up and admit it right now! I have friends who do washing every day or as and when they need to but not me, I am a Weekend Washer.

Weekdays are always busy here with school runs, homework and after school activities. Plus I'm 'that' parent who would rather buy more uniform items so there's enough for one each day to save me having to wash them. Saying that out loud makes me sound lazy.

But I'm not, I just like to do all my washing on the weekend when I have more time.

I'd don't like doing the washing but I don't hate it either, it's just 'something' I have to do. With three children, two of which have really sensitive skin so I have to use a Non Bio power or liquid. It often means we have to compromise on great smelling laundry for safe to wear laundry instead. This week I've been using a new laundry detergent Ecover Non Bio.

Ecover’s Non-Bio Laundry Detergent delivers a powerful clean and features a new delightful naturally-inspired fragrance, Lavender & Sandalwood which means we can have nice smelling clothes and have wearable clothes too. The dermatologically tested, plant-based Non-Bio formula delivers spotlessly clean results, even on a cold wash. It sounds great so I happy to give it a go this week as I tend to use the Quick Wash cycle which is only a 30 degree wash. I'm not lazy, honest. I'm just a busy Mum trying to save as much time as I can.

Britmums wanted to know my Washing Routine? So this is how my weekly washing goes:

Week days whiz by in a whirl, there's always so much to do.
So when the Weekend arrives, I have the washing baskets to go through.

Sorting and Matching, Three loads to do - Colours, Whites and Darks.
Each on a Quick Wash and then off to play in the Parks.

There's 28 Minutes to have some fun, before the next lot of washing is begun.
Whilst one load is washing, one load is drying and one is left waiting, almost crying.

Done in a rush, always hurried and quick, a Non Bio liquid - equals a great big Tick.
A busy Mummy has lots to do, with three dirty loads of laundry to get through.

My routine is to: sort, wash and tumble dry. Fold and put away - then let out a sigh.
It's all quick and easy, no fuss, mess or worry. Washing on a Weekend done in a hurry.

I do it all, but there's not that much to do. It doesn't take up my whole Weekend through.
It's an easy chore which I don't exactly adore but I do, it, as that's what Mums are for.

So this week I swapped my normal non bio liquid tablets for the Ecover detergent liquid and have to say it was really nice. It smelt natural but pretty and washed my clothes to a high standard. Everything came out nice and clean and smelt great which was a nice change.

One cap full for a normal load or one and a half for a full load which what I used as I do tend to fill my washing machine up to it's capacity. I liked Ecover and would use it again. Would I swap from what I use right now? Maybe, I'm a savvy shopper so I guess I'd pick up what's the cheaper of the two or what's on offer at the time I bought it. That's a good sign though as I would happily buy it and use it again. It worked well and the kids clothes came out clean.

Job Done

Smurf Spotting and Aurasma AR Activites .. Who will You find?

Smurf Spotting and Aurasma AR Activites ..
Who will You find?

Come rain or shine there's always lots of fun to be had in your own back garden.

With the help of Sony and The Smurfs Movies Facebook page there's a fun new Aurisma AR activity that lets you find hidden Smurfs in your garden. Find Smurfs in your own back garden by downloading the Aurasma App & following the simply instructions. There's several printouts for you to use including, Smurfs Houses, a Summoning Kit and a Spotting Guide. With these cute cutouts and the app on your phone, something magical happens.

Last week the kids and I placed our Smurfs House in the back garden nestled under a tree to give them some privacy and watched to see what would happen. Nothing happened right away so the kids went inside to play. Once they were out of site I used the app to bring it to life. Take a look at what I saw them getting up too. The kids couldn't believe what I'd seen.

Our little Smurf was happily playing with his football outside his house before I think he spotted me and stopped to wave a finger in disapproval at me, oops. I don't think he minded too much though as he soon went back inside safely after that. The kids were so excited and now think that he lives in our back garden. It's nice to believe in a little magic.

There's lots of The Smurfs: The Lost Village Blu Rays's to be won on The Smurfs Movies Facebook page. Simply upload a picture of what Smurf you find in your garden once you've used the activity pack and app to find them. It's really fun and you could win a prize too.

Disclosure: We received our Smurf House to help promote the Smurf Movies Competition.
