Family Friendly places to eat at intu Merry Hill - Pizza Express #Review

Family Friendly places to eat at
intu Merry HillPizza Express

We're always looking for family friendly places to eat in when we're out and about and this week has been no different. intu Merry Hill has lots of choice of eateries with food to suit all but some places are always going to be more child friendly than others so we popped over to the Pizza Express intu Merry Hill restaurant to see what it was like for ourselves. We've been to Pizza Express many times before, as we're huge fans, but we always go to our local Sutton Coldfield one so it was really exciting to visit a different one to see what it was like.

First impressions were, wow, it was huge. It's much bigger than we'd expected, with two floors and a huge dining area filled with booths and tables all in neat rows. It's nice and bright inside as it's huge windows let all the natural light in from outside which is very pretty. From the moment we entered to the moment we left, the staff were all wonderful. They were very attentive and couldn't help us enough. The waitresses talked to the children and included them in the ordering process which was really nice. The children were definatley made to feel very welcome, they were never made to feel like burdens at all. It was great.

Both my younger two were given an activity pack and crayons to keep them entertained throughout our visit which worked really well. They had colouring, puzzles, stickers and more. The little booklet had lots to do on it which kept them busy in between courses. They also had hats which Ryan loved, Lily coloured hers in but then didn't want to wear it.

The Pizza Express Piccolo Menu which is their Kids Menu costs £6.95 for a three course meal which consists of a Dough Ball and side salad Starter, Main of pizza or pasta and a Desert and Bambinoccino which is a frothed milk with a sprinkling of chocolate powder.

Both Ryan and Lily loved the Dough Balls, Ryan loves them because they're all warm and squidgy when he puts them in his mouth. Lily loves them smothered in the garlic butter. We all love the Dough Balls at Pizza Express, there's just something so moreish about them.

There's a good choice of Mains to choose from, you can choose one of the three different pasta's they have on offer or one of their four pizza's but if you have fussy little eaters like I do, you can swap and change the toppings to create your own perfect pizza. Ryan doesn't like any toppings so he went for the Margherita which Lily had too but added some ham to the top. The pizza's were a good size and were very plentiful for them. They both managed to eat them all but Lily did struggle on her last slice as six slices was a lot.

The third and final course was Desert, Lily's favourite. There's three options to choose from: a Pip Organic Fruity Ice Lolly, a one scoop Sundae or a Chocolate Brownie with fresh strawberry. Each one comes served with a Bambinoccino on the side which is very cute. Ryan went for the Chocolate Brownie but Lily, who's a huge Sorbet lover wanted my adult dessert of Raspberry Sorbet. As I'd ordered Lily an adult dessert the waitress kindly offered to box up another Chocolate Brownie dessert for her to take home which I was though was such a great idea. I'd not even realised we could do. that but was so glad the waitress told us. They popped in into a gorgeous little box and even put a giant Strawberry in with it.

The Pizza Express Piccola Menu is very good value for money and fills the kids up nicely. Ryan is 6 years and Lily is 9 and both really enjoyed their whole meal and dining experience. They were made to feel so welcome and comfortable at all times which enabled me to relax and enjoy myself too. It's great being in a place that loves children and caters for them well as it takes the stress away and makes for a really nice eating out experience.

Pizza Express intu Merry Hill is very child friendly and a great place to eat out with kids.

The kids weren't the only ones who had a good time though, Mummy, Daddy and Chloe (14) also had a great time. I've written a few words about what we enjoyed below:

Chloe had the Calzone Classico which she really enjoyed, it's basically a folded pizza which still tastes great but is a little less messier and much easier to cut and eat.

Daddy had the American Romana which is his favourite as he has it every time we go. He also added some Cured Meats to the top to add even more meatiness and flavour.

I had the Pennette Formaggi which is their very own take on the classic Mac & Cheese which I love. It was served piping hot it was actually still bubbling around the sides which was awesome. It smelled and tasted so good too. The portion was quite big so I didn't manage to eat it all but I did thoroughly enjoy every bite of what I did manage to eat.

For Dessert, I had their brand new show stopper on the menu, the Chocolate Fondant. OMG what a dessert, it was so delicious. It was a beautiful rich and intense chocolate cake served warm with a soft melting centre. It came served with a scoop of vanilla gelato, fresh mint and icing sugar. It was delightful and I would have enjoyed more of it if Chloe had not decided that she wanted to share once she'd seen how good it looked. She's not wanted a dessert as she was too full but soon changed her mind when she how how great mine was.

If you're having a dessert then we would all definitely recommend this one, it's amazing!

Disclosure: We were invited for a complimentary Pizza Express Piccola Menu meal in return for an honest review. All opinions expressed are 100% honest and all our own.

Coldpress Juices - Just 150ml Counts as One of your Five a Day #Review

Coldpress Juices
Just 150ml Counts as One of your Five a Day.

Coldpress Juices are 'cold pressured’ rather than pasteurised with heat (unlike most juices), meaning substantially more essential vitamins and nutrients, as well as antioxidants and polyphenols, are preserved. It also means the flavour of the fruit is kept intact resulting in a delicious range of drinks with stand out fruitiness. Coldpress juices are an excellent way of ensuring you get all the vitamins and nutrients you need to keep yourself in tip top shape.

Why should you choose Cold Press Juices, Here’s why:
  • In terms of sugar - all juices contain naturally occurring sugars but because Cold press juices are 'cold pressured’ (rather than being brutally pasteurised with heat) they preserve substantially more of the essential nutrients found in juices.
  • What that means is that you can drink less Coldpress juice to get your recommended daily intake of vitamins.
  • Coldpress orange juice provides you with 100% more Vitamin C than its pasteurised rivals, while Coldpress apple juice also contains twice as many antioxidants and polyphenols as its pasteurised rivals!
  • Coldpress recommends a portion of 150ml a day of juice - which counts as one of your five a day, as drinking more doesn’t alter this.
  • By choosing a juice that is nutritionally dense like Coldpress, you are simply able to get better 'health-value’ for your portion.
  • In other words, they are ‘nutritionally-dense’.
  • We know that many people struggle to consume the recommended 5 a day, so having one juice at breakfast, for example, remains an easy way to help reach the daily target.
Last week I was sent two of their Juices from their ranges to try: Berry Beets and Fruity Greens. Both looked a little interesting but I was willing to give them a try, why not.

Berry Beets contains: Apple Juice, Apple Puree, Raspberry Puree, Beetroot Puree, Pear Puree and Lemon Juice Each bottle contains 500ml which means you can get a good 3 portions of the recommended 150ml out of each one. I like the idea that you can drink less of it and still get your daily recommended amount of goodness. So if you're like me and don't really enjoy drinking 'healthy' drinks then these are the perfect choice as you only have to drink 150ml's of it a day which is much easier to swallow in one sitting.

The juice is nice and thick like a thick smoothie but it does have a smooth texture as there are no bits in it. It's not that bad, taste wise actually. It just tasted like mixed berries, you couldn't really taste the beetroot too much which I was really happy about as I'm not a fan.

Fruity Greens contains: Apple Juice, Apple Puree, Celery, Banana Puree, Kiwi Fruit Pure, Kale Juice, Spinach Juice and Lime Juice. I didn't like this one as much as I did the Berry one but it was Ok I guess. The apples and bananas break up the veggie taste which is a good thing as I don't like too vegetables so drinking this is the only way I'm ever going to get any inside my stomach. Both of the drinks were drinkable and actually tasted quite nice.

Cold Press Juices come in a wide range of flavours, there's lots to choose from. What ever fruits of vegetables you like best, i'm sure they'll have a juice full of it. With only 63 Calories per serving (150ml) they're great for an after gym session or work out top up of goodness.

Treat your Man to a Close Shave this Valentine's Day.

Valentine's Day is fast approaching and if you're like me and have no idea what to buy your other half then let me help with a few ideas. Every man has to shave so why not treat them to a new shaver? I've been trying out, well I say I but actually Daddy, has been trying out some new shavers for you this week. We have two different ones for you, the Gillette Fusion Proshield Chill for a low budget gift and the Braun Series 3 for a higher priced gift. Both would make the perfect Valentine's Day gift depending on how much you want to spend.

The Fusion Proshield Chill Razor with Flexball technology is Gillette's most advanced cartridge yet; Fusion ProShield lubrication BEFORE and after the blades helps to shield whilst you shave. Plus, Chill features Cooling Technology during the shave.

The FlexBall Technology makes maximum contact over contours. Features include:

• FlexBall Technology that responds to contours and gets virtually every hair

• Precision Trimmer on back for accurate edging
• Blades fit all Fusion and ProGlide handles

Daddy liked the good grip handle which makes it easier to hold and the cooling strips which make the shave much more comfortable. He loved the 5 blades that gave a nice smooth shave and the rollerball which allowed the razor to reach those hard to reach places. For the price of £12 it's a great gift for those who don't want to spend to much but want to show they care. You get a great shaver for the money and we both think it's worth every penny.

The Braun Series 3 ProSkin 3040s Rechargeable Wet&Dry Electric Shaver in blue is a real beauty. The Braun Series 3 ProSkin rechargeable electric foil shaver/razor provides faster shaving with great skin comfort. The 3 pressure-sensitive shaving elements adapt to every facial contour and the specialised Micro Grip capture more hairs in the first stroke.

It's Highlights:

  • MicroComb technology. Catches and feeds more hair for a faster shave: It features two rows of fine, evenly spaced grooves that surround an independently moving middle trimmer. This catches and feeds more hair with every stroke, which gives you a faster shave.
  • Triple Action Cutting System: Twin foils and an integrated middle trimmer shave progressively closer. Together they effectively cuts both long and short hairs with every stroke, proven even on difficult 3-day beards.
  • 2x SensoFoil: Specially designed to deliver an efficient close shave and a gentle skin experience.

  • Shave wet or dry: You can use the Series 3 ProSkin with water, foam or gel for even better gliding and a smoother skin feeling. Plus you can even shave in the shower.

Daddy liked the look of this shaver as it is very attractive to the eye. It's a nice size so that it sits comfortably in the hand. It's fast charging and very powerful giving you a clean cut shave. The protector cap and smart charger are great for taking it safely out and about with you and the cleaning brush is great for cleaning it after each use. Daddy commented that he'd be happy if he received one for these for Valentine's Day as it's a gift that will be loved and used every day, time and time again. So forget buying chocolates or teddy bears, why not buy your loved one a new shaver this year, he might love it more than you'd think. The Braun Series 3 will cost you £99 but it's a good shaver that's built to last so it could be worth the money if you have a partner who does shave and trim every day of the week.

We loved both of the razors and think they'd make great alternative Valentine's Day gifts.

Superdrug now sells Health and Wellness products #Review

Superdrug now sells Health and Wellness products.

Superdrug is excited to announce a fantastic range of Health and Wellness products that are NEW and available in store and online from January 2017. They're perfect for those of us who are on a New Year health and fitness routine after overindulging at Christmas...

Over the past few weeks, I've been increasing my Protein intake and lowering my Sugar intake so these sounded perfect for me and I couldn't wait to give them all a try.

I was sent a little package containing some of what they sell to try for myself:

NEW Aussie Bodies Crunch Bars: I really liked these as they're super tasty little bars that are high in protein and fiber, low carbs and low calorie (under 150 calories per bar), low in sugar and even gluten free! They're the perfect little 'on the go' treat when you're in a rush.

Aussie Crunch bars are now the number one selling protein bars in Australia and are available exclusively now from Superdrug. They make perfect after gym snacks.

Available in Blueberry Almond, Coconut & Lemon, Cranberry and Honey Almond.

Light Bite bars & Light Bites Fruit Chips: I tried the Mango with Vanilla Yogurt fruit chips and the Quinoa, honey and pumpkin seeds bar. Both tasted pretty good and again made snacking a whole lot healthier. It's great to be able to snack and not feel guilty when eating.

Light Bites Bars are all less than 100 calories and make the perfect alternatives to full-fat snacks for those who are on the lookout for a healthier snacking option. They are high in protein and fibre, while still being low in calories. Light Bite bars come in 4 flavours; Quinoa, Honey and Pumpkin Seeds Superfood Seed Bar, Goji Berries, Quinoa and Chia Seeds Superfood Fruit Bar, Raw Strawberry with Cacao Nibs Raw Bar, Chocolate Cookie Caramel Flavour Bar. I only tried the one flavour but wouldn't mind trying some of the others too now.

Light Bites Fruit Chips come in 3 flavours, Mango with Vanilla Yoghurt Tasty Freeze Dried Fruit and Yoghurt Chips, Strawberry and Apple Crunchy Freeze Dried Fruit Chips, Apple with Strawberry Yoghurt Freeze Dried Fruit and Yoghurt Chips. At just 46 calories per packet, that's pretty good. I could quite happily swap my packet of crisps for one of these.

The Low sugar BooTea Brownies with 18 grams of added protein were pretty tasty and a nice swap for my usual chocolate biscuits. The Meal Replacement bars were delicious, I tried the Peanut Nougat flavour which I loved as it contained two of my favourite things.

The Mini Aussie Bars are High protein, low calorie (less than 99 calories per bar), low net carbs and low in sugar. These little protein powerhouses are smart indulgent treats to keep you feeling fit, focused & fabulous. They're Perfect for those watching their weight or wanting to have a healthy power to keep you going through out the day or a workout. They are available in Peanut Butter Caramel, Salted Caramel and toffee Crisp.

I think that it's great that I can now grab a healthy snack from Superdug when I pop in for my make up supplies or my daily treats. Lots of shops sell treats but not healthy ones so it makes a nice change to see this sort of snack on sale. I know I'd buy them in there.

Why not check out the rest of Superdrug's Healthy Snacking range online.

Something's Got To Change so Today's The Day!

Something's Got To Change so Today's The Day!

With each meal I find myself saying "I really shouldn't be eating this" but yet I eat it. With each glass of wine I drink, find myself saying "I really shouldn't be drinking this" yet I do.

Every day I find myself saying "I'll start tomorrow - I'll change then" But tomorrow never comes so TODAY I am going to make a change. TODAY I am going to go into the kitchen and throw out all of the fizzy pop and the bottles of wine and the packets of sweets and I won't be buying any more of them from now on. Today's the day, Something's gotta change.

I've never really had a problem with my weight, I've always thought of myself as 'one of the lucky ones' as my weight was always pretty stable. I've weighed around 9 stone for the past 10 years give or take a few pounds but not any more. Upon standing on the scales last week I felt pretty disappointed in myself for the first time ever as I'd almost hit 10 stone.

I've always been a fussy eater or a lazy eater as most would call it. Working unsociable hours means I often grab something on the go meaning I eat a lot of fast food. This have never really effected me before but lately I've been drinking an awful lot of fizzy pop and drinking a fair bit of alcohol. That one glass of wine a night starts to add up.

I know if I'm completely honest with myself I cannot change the food I eat altogether a there's so much food I just won't eat or don't like but I am going to change everything that I can. I can swap the fizzy drinks for squash or water and I can cut out the wine at night.

There are lots of small changes to my diet that I can make and I am going to try. Today I've made the decision to change and this time I am determined to try hard and succeed.

No more crisps or cakes when I'm hungry or 'bored' in the evenings and no more chocolate for breakfast. No more wine before bed and no more fizzy pop all day long. Summer is on it's way and this time, I will be ready for it. I will get rid of this extra stone of weight and I will feel good about myself in doing so. Today's the day I am going to do it. It all starts now!

I'll try and keep you updated with how I get on but until then - Wish me Luck x

Going Meat Free with Hooba Foods #Review

Going Meat Free with Hooba Foods: Review

2017 for me is all about trying to eat better and feel a little healthier so this week I went Meat Free with the help of Hooba Foods. Hooba Foods believe that eating too much processed meat isn’t very good for us so it’s a good idea to cut-down on the amount you eat. Hooba Foods make it so easy for you to cut out a little or cut-out the lot. Hooba Foods use protein-rich mushrooms to reduce or replace the meat we eat. I'm not a fan of mushrooms but I was determined to give them a try so when our delivery arrived, I have to admit, I was a little nervous. I never eat mushrooms, they're normally the item on my plate that gets left behind.

Our delivery included: Hooba No Meat Burgers, No Meat Sausages, No Meat Sausage Rolls and No Meat Mince. All of them contain the main ingredient: Selected Mushrooms. They have lots of other seasonings in them to give them flavours other than just mushroom.

Tonight we cooked the No Meat Sausages and Burgers for our Tea. They're easy to cook as they only take 15 minutes in the oven. You can shallow fry them but we did ours in the oven.

First off, they look great. They're a nice size, good shape and lovely colour. They don't look much different than our normal meaty sausages or burgers. Unfortunately for me, all I could taste was mushroom. I was hoping that some of the other flavours may have disguised them but sadly I was out of luck. The mushroom flavour is very strong which for me was a bad thing but for mushroom lovers, that's a great thing as not only will you get the goodness but you'll love the taste too. I am happy to try anything once but once was enough for me on this occasion. Daddy does eat mushroom so I got him to try them too, he was happy enough to eat them saying they were a little plain on their own but tasted much better with sauce.

Chloe, my 14 year old, took a few bites and thought they were OK texture wise but again she's not a mushroom fan so wouldn't choose to eat more than a bite or two. My youngest two wouldn't even try them after they heard that they were made from mushrooms. I should have kept it quiet until after they had tried them but, oops, it was too late by that point.

I've not tried the No Meat Mince yet but I'm planning on turning it into a mince dinner for Daddy tomorrow. I'm sure it will taste great with served on a mountain of fluffy mash with a smothering of gravy. I think I might give it a miss but that's only because I really don't like mushrooms, again, I really don't think I'd thought this all through properly, did I?

Hooba Foods are a good quality meat free alternative perfect for all the mushroom lovers out there but if you're like me and don't like mushrooms then maybe these are not for you.

On the other hand, if you're like me and will try anything once, fell free to give them a try and see what you think for yourself. Who knows, you might like them.

A Poem to my 14 year old daughter .. Put Down Your Phone ..

A Poem to my 14 year old daughter ..
Put Down Your Phone

Dearest child. Please:

Put down your phone
Let me see your beautiful face.

Put down your phone
And re-join the Human Race.

Put down your phone
Play a game with us or two.

Put down your phone
See what stress you put me through.

Put down your phone
You're wasting your days away.

Put down your phone
Go outside and play.

Put down your phone
Talk to us, be our friend.

Put down your phone
It's worrying, I won't pretend.

Put down your phone
You won't crumble and die.

Put down your phone
The World won't stop or cry.

Put down your phone
Stop it now, Stop it Please.

Put down your phone
Step back and breathe.

Put down your phone
I'm your Mum and I ask.

Put down your phone
Protecting you is my task!

January Specials at Pizza Express - Comfort Food at It's Best! #Review

January Specials at Pizza Express.
 Comfort Food at It's Best!

This Sunday we spent our weekly 'Family Time' enjoying some delicious food at our local Pizza Express restaurant in Sutton Coldfield in Birmingham. I love our local restaurant as everyone there is just so friendly and helpful, the staff there really are fantastic, nothing's too much trouble for them. If you have a problem, you only have to say and they will fix it.

The main reason behind our visit this weekend was to try out their new January Specials Menu. There's several new additions plus some old favourites that have been added to it.

We all choose different things from the Menu so that we could try a little of everything. There is one new starter which is the Pennette Formaggi which is their take on the classic Mac & Cheese which I love. We didn't have this as a starter but only because my eldest daughter Chloe wanted it as her main, they do it as a main as well as a starter which is awesome.

There are two new 'After Dinner Delights' (Cocktails) on offer, both looked delicious in their own right but as a Prosecco lover I had to go for the Sloe Prosecco which was very nice.

I'm going to try an focus our review on the new things that we tried as not to bore you with all the things we have every time we go like the Dough Balls which are always good.

Our starters included the Classic Italian Antipasto, Adult Dough Balls and Kids Dough Balls. Everything was delicious and well presented on the plates. We are a huge Dough Ball loving family so everyone except Daddy had to have Dough Balls. Daddy is a real meat lover so the Classic Italian Antipasto (meat selection) was the perfect choice for him and he loved it.

For our mains I went for the New Barbacoa Romana which was delicious. The pulled Barbacoa beef was just amazing! If I could have had extra of it, I sure would have. The Romana is very big so I did struggle to eat all of it but I thoroughly enjoyed what I did eat. I ordered it as it came to show you a true picture of what it would look like if you order it as it comes straight from the menu. Please note that you can swap and change any toppings that you may not like or want. If I was to personalise my pizza I would have asked for no tomato or onion as I don't like these but I was happy enough to pick them off this time.

Chloe had the New Pennette Formaggi for her main which she really liked but did find that the cheese taste was a little over powered by the mustard taste. Her portion was again quite big so she didn't manage to eat all of it but she did enjoy what she did manage to eat.

I did get to try a little bit of it to see what it was like for myself and have to say that I really liked it. It was served up really hot and tasted really nice. I love Mac & Cheese so this for me was just perfect. It's everything a good Mac & Cheese should be and so much more.

The kids choose their pizza's from the Kids Piccolo Menu, Lily had the La Reine but asked for the mushroom and olives to be left off so it was basically just a ham pizza but the staff were happy to do this for her. Ryan had the Margherita as he's just a plain pizza kinda guy.

Daddy had the American which he upgraded to a Romana and had the added finish of cured Italian meats on top too. He was in meat heaven with his and did manage to finish it all off.

We accompanied our mains with some Polenta Chips which I absolutely love. They are my favourite restaurant chips ever! I could eat these all day long, I really could - Yum!

The kids pizzas are much smaller than the adult ones but they were the perfect size for my two as by the time they've eaten their starter, pizza and desert, they're pretty much all filled up and happy. The Piccolo Menu lets you have a starter, main and desert for £6.95.

By this time we were all feeling pretty full up but there was a new desert that we had to try.

The New Chocolate Fondant: A rich and intense warm chocolate cake with a soft
melting centre, served with vanilla gelato ice cream, a fresh mint garnish and a sprinkling of icing sugar. We let Lily order this one as she was so excited about trying it but I did get a small bite to try it and have to say it was very nice. Out of the four deserts that we ordered it was the only one that was served warm which made it taste that little bit better. It was a good sized portion and tasted like a little piece of chocolate heaven, it was that good.

I opted for something a bit smaller as I was felling really full,I went for the Salted Caramel Profiteroles which came served with a cup of English Tea which was more than lovely and the perfect way to end my meal. Chloe had the Chocolate Fudge Cake which was lovely but did come served cold which disappointed her slightly as she likes it warmed up so that it melts a little. Ryan had the Chocolate Brownie from the kids menu which again came served cold but he was more than happy with his, it also came served with a Bambinoccino on the side which was a drink of frothed milk with a sprinkle of chocolate powder on the top. He wasn't too keen on this but he did give it a try at least. He doesn't really drink warm drinks.

Overall we had a lovely time and really enjoyed our food. Our favourites from the new menu would have to be the Pennette Formaggi which you can have as a starter or a main depending on the size of the portion you would like. Chloe had it as her main but I think that next time I'd like to have it as my starter so that I could still have a pizza as a main and get the best of both worlds with pasta and pizza for dinner. The New Chocolate Fondant desert was another great dish as it's warm chocolate melting centre mixed with that cold ice cream was just delicious. I think next time it will be Chocolate Fondant's all round - Yay!

If you enjoy your comfort foods in Winter or love Mac & Cheese like I do then I would recommend trying out the new January Specials at your local Pizza Express.

Disclosure: We were invited to try the new menu and received a complimentary meal for the purpose of this review. All opinions expressed are my own and 100% honest and true.
