Our Favourite Family TV Moments.
Have you ever wondered what your TV favourites say about you? TalkTalk have created a fun quiz to help you find out. With YouView from TalkTalk now being Britain’s fastest growing TV service, it’s quickly becoming the home of family entertainment. They questioned families up and down the country to uncover what the nation enjoys most about telly, and see how the likes of catch up, the ability to pause, rewind and record live TV, and instantly watch on demand movies, sport and kids programmes have improved TV.
They found eight different types of TV viewers or ‘TV Tribes’ ranging from ‘Family Guys’ who enjoy nothing more than bringing the family together to watch their favourite programmes to ‘Secret Viewers’ who tell everyone they watch the likes of Newsnight but secretly revel in trash TV. Well, today I took their quiz to find out what kind of viewer I am.
My Result: I am The Compliant.
I tend to watch whatever my other half or housemates watch. I don’t really mind what’s on, and even if it's something I don’t want to watch, I don’t get much say in the matter. I will often be doing other things in the same room while they have the TV on. I will either be browsing the internet while the TV is on, doing housework, or pursuing one of my hobbies.
9% of people belong to this TV Tribe.
Wow, this is spot on for me! I spend every day with only the likes of Peppa Pig and Fireman Sam for company as my three year old gets so much pleasure out of watching them. Then from 4pm onwards I find myself sat watching awful American children's dramas full of spoilt teenage girls and dramatic wannabees for my girls entertainment. It's not until after 7pm every night once the kids are all in bed that I finally get control of my own remote and finally get to enjoy a few hours of my favourite soaps. It's a long wait but so worth it I guess.
Why don't you take the TalkTalk Quiz and see what kind of viewer you are.
With three children with four years age gaps in between them, they're taste in programmes can vary a lot meaning they often fight about what they want to watch. I try to make it fair and give them all half an hour each but even that doesn't work sometimes as there's always something on that they want on a time not in their given slot. It can be a nightmare at times!
Once a week though all of this changes and we actually all sit down together to enjoy a family film. Every Sunday at 5pm, it's Family Film Time. I choose a new film (to save arguments) that none of us have seen and we all settle down with a few snacks to watch it.
This has to be my all time favourite use of our TV and definitely my favourite TV moment of every week. As much as I do love watching my soaps I kinda love seeing their faces as they get entangled in the magical stories and hearing their laughter more. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, it makes all those previous rows and fall outs all disappear.
Family Movies, whether new or old always bring us together and unite us as one even if it is just for an hour and a half. Movies make us laugh and cry at times, hide behind our cushions or even jump up and down for joy. Whatever the movie we're watching, we're guaranteed to have a fun family time filled with lots of memorable moments.
My three might be getting bigger and older, starting to go off on their own adventures and enjoying their own things but one thing for sure is that every Sunday at 5PM they will ALL be by my side ready to watch a movie. No matter how big they get, we'll always have that!
This is my entry into the Tots100 Share your TV moments Competition.
