Family Holidays Are Where The Best Memories Are Made!

Family holidays are where the best memories are made...

This is me and my beautiful family holidaying in a cosy caravan near to a beach somewhere in Wales in the middle of the a typical British Summer like most normal families do. Every year we go away as a family somewhere together to spend some time relaxing, having fun and enjoying some good old fashion family time. We may not go anywhere fancy but it still costs me a small fortune but I do it because I don't want my children to miss out as family holidays are so important to me. To me, this is the time when those precious memories are made and stored in their heads forever! Why do I say that? Because of all the childhood memories I have, our family holidays ones are always the ones I love to look back on the most.

When I was little my mum and dad didn't have a lot of money but we always had a holiday at the seaside every year without fail. A family friend used to own a small caravan at the Welsh seaside resort of Rhyl. We spend so many summers there playing on the beach, walking in the sun and generally just having so much fun. Some summers we went to holiday parks or seaside towns to stay in a bed and breakfast. Every year without fail, we always had a holiday to look forward too. When I look back on all those holidays there's one that sticks out the most for me. When I was around 11 years old, my mum, dad, sister and I enjoyed a whole week in Blackpool. Being the youngest of the three my sister (15) and brother (19) were getting too old to want to come anymore so this was our final holiday with nearly all of us together.

We stayed in a small Bed and Breakfast on the Blackpool sea front, it wasn't anything special but it was perfect to me. My sister was your typical 'moody' teenager who spent most of the week trying to get away from us whilst my mum and dad did their best to make my days as fun as they could be. We enjoyed ice creams on the promenade and made sandcastles on the beach. We played the teddy machines in the arcades and won loads of cute teddies to take home. We actually won so many that they almost didn't fit in the car when we went home, I remember having my photo taken lying on the bed covered in all the teddies I had won. My smile was huge and I was so happy, writing about it now brings it all back. I'm sure my sister took the picture for me and she was smiling, yes even she cracked a smile. It probably wasn't for very long but there was definitely a smile.

Fish and chips served in newspaper, fun on the bumper cars at the fair. Trips out to the local Sea Life centre and even nightly entertainment at the local family bars. I have so many lovely memories of that holiday but best of all I have so many smiles just thinking about it which is what I want for my children. It's all these happy thoughts in my head that have lasted for so many years that I want my children to enjoy too. I want them too look back and smile remembering the silly things that we've gotten up to and the times that we have shared.

It wasn't until a year ago when I asked my mum how she afforded to take us on all those holidays when we were young that she replied "Every year we would pay for those holidays on a credit card and spend the rest of the year paying it off but when I look back now, I know it was worth the struggle." I had never known how much she had done for me, my brother and sister. She had struggled without us knowing every year just so that we could go on those family holidays and I love her so much for what she did. So now when I look at the price tags attached to these holidays I just take one look at my children and know that it will be worth it. My job as a mother is to give my children the best in this life, like my mother and father did for me. That might not mean fancy holidays abroad but it does mean a week or a few days at least, near the sea and the sand where we can all play together and make some memories of our own.
